Mudbath: Tigers too good for Hawks in torrential rain
South Bunbury defeated Augusta Margaret River at Gloucester Park on Sunday afternoon, in round sixteen of the South West Football League season.
Fans who arrived early would have seen Gloucester Park almost totally under water, and by the time the League game arrived, the water had mostly subsided to mud all across the ground, which led to a multitude of stoppages.
The Tigers made the best of the bad conditions in the opening term with a dry ball, kicking four unanswered goals to lead by 25 points at quarter time.
The run of goals continued in the second quarter, with Kade Wallrodt kicking two goals in three minutes, followed shortly after by a goal to Ethan Nordahl to have the Tigers 43 points in front.
Max Spyvee converted after the half time siren to give the home fans something to cheer about, but that would be the Hawks’ only goal until Harvey Fisher goaled at the twelve minute mark of the last term.
The third term was all South Bunbury, keeping the Hawks scoreless, with the Tigers showing proficient ball movement in the very trying conditions.
Jye Clarke, Blaine Johnson and Kade Wallrodt would all end the day with three goals, with Kevin Chitty and Rhys Crawford amongst the best players.
The win sets up a top of the table clash with Busselton at Hands Oval next Saturday, while the Hawks will host Bunbury, also on Saturday.

Dunsborough Win Thriller In Big Wet
Dunsborough defeated Eaton at the Dunsborough Playing Fields on Sunday afternoon.
Played in atrocious conditions, with more than 50mm of rain falling overnight and during the match, scoring was almost impossible at times, with just one goal kicked after half time, and no goals kicked in the final term.
Eaton, who have been slow starters in recent weeks, got off to a great start, kicking three goals for the opening term, with Ben McGuire a focal point up forward, kicking two goals for the term.
Leading by eight points at quarter time, the lead was dwindled down to two points at half time, and scores were level at three quarter time, with the final term yielding three behinds, with Dunsborough kicking all three of them to win by three points.
Dunsborough’s experienced players, Simon Moore, Jake Green, Mack Candy and Cayden Black all played well, in what were very trying conditions. Bailey Nylander and Jason Carter continued their great seasons for Eaton, in a game that went right to the wire.
The win puts Dunsborough back to eighth place, dropping the Collie Eagles to ninth.
