Open day for radio station

July 25, 2025 BY

Radio Margaret River volunteers and supporters have been hard at work to establish the station since it began broadcasting on the FM band earlier this year.

Radio Margaret River (RMR) will host its first Open Day event at the new studios this weekend, when the station volunteers will throw open the doors on Saturday July 26 from 12pm to 3pm.

“It is going to be such a fun day,” station manager Richard Lee-Pullen said. “People will be able to record their own RMR sting and hear themselves on air, perhaps for the first time.

“At 2:30pm there will be a special session open to all – ‘The Power of Local Voices’ – an inspiring look into how Radio Margaret River brings community stories to life and how people can get involved.”

Community members are being invited to join in the fun and experience the buzz of live radio.

It’s been 4 months since RMR started broadcasting on the FM band from their new location at the Margaret River Men’s Shed and now volunteers are excited to invite the community to step inside the studio for a behind-the-scenes look at how the station operates, to meet the voices behind the shows and to see what goes into producing grassroots radio in the region.

The station originally began as a community internet-based station in 2020, and has grown to feature a range of shows to cater to all tastes of music, as well as telling community stories and local events.

Highlights include a live open broadcast, featuring Radio Margaret River DJs and presenters, sausages and refreshments to keep you fuelled, and the opportunity to mingle with RMR presenters, volunteers and supporters.

Radio Margaret River volunteers are encouraging locals to join in the fun of the station’s first Open Day event on Saturday July 26.

“Whether you’re a curious local, an aspiring radio host, a creative thinker, a potential sponsor, or simply passionate about community, our RMR crew believes there’s something here for you.

“Bring your friends, family and a sense of curiosity and together, let’s celebrate community, creativity and connection: the spirit of Radio Margaret River 101.9FM.”
